I am adding a new section that has the books that we have voted for in the past but did not get selected. So if you want to use them as your book selections when its your turn to vote you can refer to them there.  I am really just changing what used to be under the Reading Suggestions tab...

End of year recap

Christmas is over. Presents have been opened. A new year is now ahead of us. Thanks for sharing your insight and some good discussions with me in 2012. It has been a very eventful year to say the least and book club has been one of my most favorite events to look foward to every month. Continue to read and expand your minds and let your imagination run wild in 2013. I can't wait to see what books we will get to dissect and criticize in 2013.

October meeting Recap

*Location was at P.F. Changs. 
**We discussed Wife22 by Melanie Gideon.
***A new method to book selection was also discussed. All the members present were assigned a month by drawing names.
--Each month the member selected will bring 3 book titles and the synopsis to the meeting and we vote from those 3 selected. I will email you the months pertaining to each member.
--The meeting location will also be picked by the member whose month it was to choose. So Zeuri will pick the meeting spot for November since she brought the book selections.
****Book for November is going to be Perfect Peace by Daniel Black.
*****Azia will also be writing her book review each month under the new tab on the blog. She will also bring it to book club meeting. Anyone else wanting to write a review let me know.
******Logo design for Books and Cocktails was also discussed. More info to come soon...

I will be adding you guys to the blog as administrators this week along with how to post instructions.

Lots to talk about and new changes to the club to come. I want to make this book club a way to connect and bring about new long lasting friendships. I hope everyone knows what this club really means to me. It has given me something to look forward to every month and has brought me back to the world of literature once again. I love our discussions and that everyone can express their opinions freely. I think it gives us an outlet to speak our mind without feeling judged. So lets continue to read girls and use our imaginations to open up new worlds that are hiding behind millions of unread chapters. 

Recap for September meeting:

 

~We met at my house and had some yummy appetizers and Asian cuisine by Chef Yomi. Yerusalem surprised us with some delicious cupcakes and Azia had us giddy with the wine.

~We discussed Blessings by Sheneska Jackson and researched some books for future meetings.

~The book for September is Wife 22 by Melanie Gideon. I think this one is going to be interesting.  

~Save the meeting date for October 26th. We completely forgot to talk about where we want to meet this month, so any ideas will be appreciated. I know of a little cafe next to Grant Park so I will check that out and see if that might be a good spot...

 

~Still enjoying our meetings. Always look foward to the last Friday of the month and now we are definitely back on track so I'm even more excited.

Recap of last meeting: 

1. We went to Top Spice restaurant and discussed A Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown.  

2. We had a new member join, Angela, Welcome!! 

3. Zeuri brought up having something designed as a logo to either put on a t-shirt or something else unifying our books and cocktails members. If anyone knows of someone that could draw something out for us please let me know. Thoughts were maybe a martini glass with a girl sitting on it holding a book.

4. If you know anybody that is really interested in joining they are welcome. Just forward them the email so that they can have the book before the next meeting and let me know.

5. We ended the night with Yerusalem taking pictures and eating our yummy cupcakes from Cami cakes since we had to go with the theme (Cupcake Brown). 

Hi everyone.  Sooo sorry I haven't kept up with the website for a while.  To new members: Welcome!!! To old members: Welcome Back!!  I was without a computer for a minute and then on vacation so I will be back on the ball and updating often. :)   Last time we met in June we went to Loca Luna and had a blast.  The book we chose to begin with was Blessings by Sheneska Jackson but it was a little hard to come by (price wise) so we changed to A Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown. Yerusalem will be checking a couple bookstores that she thinks will have Blessings at a fair price. Hopefully we can read it in August.  All I can say so far about A Piece of Cake is tragedy, tragedy, tragedy. Its good but definitely tragic!!  I can't wait till the end I hope it has a happy ending **fingers crossed**  Can't wait to discuss this one!   Okay, for the next meeting come ready with new ideas to keep our book club fresh and Azia wants to take group pictures so come prepared with your cute selves.

50 Shades of Grey meeting

Recap of April 27th meeting:
We went to 5 Seasons Brewery and decided we didn't care for it as much as Apres Diem plus it was a little pricier... But we still enjoyed the cocktails and each other! We discussed 50 Shades of Grey with questions provided by Azia. We had a good debate over some of the characters. This was a much more opinionated meeting. Loved it :)  Grey is definitely worth talking about. I may have to get the 2nd book since Crystal said its way better than the first...
Next meeting will still be on the last Friday, May 25th even though it is Memorial weekend, mostly everyone said they can still make it and we will take it back to Apres Diem!
May's book is Left Neglected by Lisa Genova, if I can get a copy I will email it to you this week.

Alrighty girls, I had a blast once again. I am really starting to love our meetings! Our little getaway :) See ya'll next month.

Random book talk

So I have finished 50 Shades of Grey and am really excited about meeting this week to talk about it. I can't wait to hear what people have to say, this one is going to be fun. p.s. Azia is still going to bring some questions so be prepared. I know some of you have already read the whole trilogy but I don't think I am quite ready to move on to the second book yet. (I feel like I needed a PG book for a minute). I started reading Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin. The book is really good. The movie has been out for a while now and I heard it was straight so I am going to watch it once I finish reading. I think my new pattern is read the book watch the movie...  Although I don't think our next book has a movie made from it :(  Well peeps see you soon!

Hi girls! Welcome to our Books and Cocktails blog!!! This is our own personal blog and I have set it private for only members of Books and Cocktails to see what we post. I will keep adding pages to it as I figure out what else to put on here. Right now we have the "book of the month" page and a page for future readings. I will also add when and where we will be meeting each month. This should be a good way for us to communicate with each other especially if one of can't make it to one of the meetings.
